I'm putting together Chapter 8 - Outside the Lines. This is the chapter that has the things that don't quite fit in the other chapters. So far topics included are:
Regents starting equipment
Bodyguards
Effective Party Level/Adjusting Challenge Ratings
Cerilian Magic Items - how to determine a history
What is a GB worth? (probably will be the most controversial topic, regardless of the approach)
Magical Transportation
Back from the dead
Are there other topics that people think should be included that wouldn't logically be better covered in one of the other chapters?
Any suggestions will be considered, but I won't promise that everything will be included, nor do I promise to reply to the suggestions (I need to concentrate on the project). We are desperately trying to keep away from anything that reeks too much of "house rules". The attempt is very much to make this a generic product.:)

How about the Domain Design Rules at the back of the rule book updated, for
all us people who like taking Birthright rules into our own setting?

Domain design rules are already targeted for the domain section. Thanks for the input.

How about a revised list of Cerilia-appropriate creatures, and/or guidelines to determine whether a creature type should be present in BR?
There was that list in the original BR boxed set, but it had some contradictions and other problems.
For example, in character creation, there are no gnomes, but in the creature list, gnomes are present.
Also, the goblinoids are listed individually as goblin, hobgoblin, and bugbear, rather than being listed as a single race as they are on the goblinoid/orog rules card.
In addition, I think that a number of creatures listed as being "appropriate" for Birthright don't really match the feel of the setting as it's presented throughout the rest of the products. The Aurumvorax would make a great Awnshegh-transformed badger (though it would be a animal-like one, similar to the Boar), but it's not really fitting as a species. I think that BR should be light on types of creature species, sticking mostly to the classic medieval monsters, but there could be many unique opponents in the form of awnshegh. In this manner you don't have the high-fantasy feel of hundreds of bizzare but intelligent creatures everywhere, but you preserve the excitement of facing new foes, even if they are one of a kind.

Not really a contradiction is it? No PC-gnomes. (but that`s being picky)

It`s a good point.
BR seems to have concentrated on the less-fantastic, except in the case
of awnsheghlien. The idea being that blooded characters, and
particularly Aw are the monsters of Cerilia. The more mundane creatures
are represented: dragons, giants, goblins etc - while the fantastic e.g.
sphinx, gorgon, chimera, etc are the product of bad blood.
Monsters that don`t appear in communities, or that are not
common/uncommon (cf rare or unique) should probably be Aw in origin and
unique within the BR world. (Didn`t we have a thread like this about
vampires? - the debate of `the` Vampire vs `a vampire`?) ... hmmm more
thought on this later.
Actually BR is back to the original D&D idea that humans make the best
monsters. (transformed Aw or not) Ultimately, they are the great
predators of Cerilia. The Temple of the Frog bad guy was an EHP
remember.

All good points. Work has been done (and is still ongoing) to compile a list of "acceptable" monsters from the books available (Monster Manual, Monster Manual II, etc.) Realizing that the term "acceptable" is only a suggestion for inclusion for a DM not an absolute.
Also a treatment of awnsheghlien, specifically how a character "transforms" into one is currently being discussed amongst the group. This list will probably be inclused as an appendix and not a separate chapter.
Yes we (the development team) as well as almost everyone who has played Birthright has noticed the many inconsistencies in the TSR product line. Most people believe this was due to a substandard editing cycle due to the products being rushed into production.
Keep up the input!!:)
