View Full Version : Chapter 2 ECLs

I posted this several different times and have yet to see anyone address the question.
How do the proposed ECLs for the scion templates compare to the ECL races in the books? Drow +3 ECL, Duerger +3 ECL, Thri-Kreen +3/+5 ECL? These are just examples of races that have been assigned ECL due to their relative power level in game play.
The polls seem to indicate that people like the idea of ECLs for scions (not necessarily the ones proposed), not quite enough like the template approach for me to say that it is as clear a favorite, and only a simple majority like the ability system (hence we need something else or at least a variant system). As it stands, there is still one more day to vote in the polls.

Isn't Drow +2 ECL? The Duergar has indeed an ECL of +3. Most ECL's are +1 to +3, only true exceptionell races have more than that.
Minotaur +8 for example,
but:
Half-Dragon +3
Half-Fiend/ Half-Celestial +3
Half-Elemental +3
Aasimar/ Tiefling +1
Genasi (any) +1
These are the ECL's I remember in the moment...

For human PC`s, I am reluctant to impose ECL`s without all of the elements
of an actual class level (skill bonuses, save bonuses, feats or virtual
feats, and hp`s). To those who might find hp`s an odd nicety of the
bloodline, I`d suggest that the 10 hp bonus of regents provides a model of
their use. The ECL +3 creatures seem to have a hefty number of racial
features, that would require nearly a half dozen blood powers to match them.
Frankly, even at the ECL +2 (which I`m only imposing on Great bloodlines)
I`d be pretty generous with a certain tight group of blood powers, including
Heightened Ability and Resistance.

I`d be a little careful with that assumption. A 70% vote for the status quo,
when there is no "I don`t really care" alternative, means very little.

I read the I don't cares as having no opinion and willing to go with whatever the majority decides. Who was it that explained that was pretty much what they meant be having no opinion?
I mean to say that an I don't care vote would be "I don't care" and hence would have no real effect on the polls. It would just show that someone has no real opinion on the issue.
Found the reference I was looking for: (From Peter L.)
"With an "I don`t care" alternative, people can
show which issues they have an opinion on, and which issues they just want
solved any which way."

I`d read the "I don`t cares" as meaing that you go ahead and do what ever
you want because I`m going to do it my own way in any event.
Example: You go ahead and make a racial template for garden gnomes, I don`t
care, cause I`m not gonna pollute my setting with that nonsense.
