[top]Biography:
Sari bint Bédize was married to Sayyid Marwan el-Siluf. This union was an especially close one; Sari and Marwan were of an age and seemingly content, as they had five children together: Rashid el-Siluf, Gerad el-Siluf, Oliffar el-Siluf, Dahah el-Siluf, and Sari el-Siluf. Marwan was also a wealthy ajazada, holding a castle in Kfeira, a house in Ariya. During the last war between Zikala and Ariya he joined Gerad ibn Farid el-Arrasi in defending Ariya against Zikala. Marwan came under suspicion and criticism from Emir Gerad of Ariya for failing to hold Say'un against the Zikalan forces. As the war turned against Ariya, the suspicion became intense and a trial was arranged to blame Marwan for imagined treasons. Marwan, aware of what was planned, retired to his castle and sat out the war and ignored the trial. After the war, which had not gone well, despite ending with the status quo, some still considered Marwan a traitor, though his trial had failed to prove treason. Even so, when Marwan attended a tournament in Ariya, he was arrested and swiftly executed. The Emir was distressed at this, but had failed to issue a clemency, and Sari blamed him for this injustice.
Sari, enraged and bewildered over her husband's execution, swore revenge on the Emir. She sold off the Siluf lands to the Gold Coast Coster to raise money, whereupon she bought three warships, and began harassing the trade of Ariya as pirates. Her largest ship, a zebec called the "Black Arrow", became her base and she preyed on Ariya ever after.
The ships that Sari purchased were painted all black on her command, and the sails dyed red. The Black Fleet took to the waters and began hunting down and destroying the ships of Ariya, and were merciless with the crews. But Sari would always leave two or three of Ariya's sailors alive, so that the message would get back to the Emir that the Black Arrow had struck once again.
When war between Zikala and Ariya returned, Sari and her fleet also assisted in keeping the Zikalan waters free of Ariyan warships, and it is very likely that as a privateer she had a hand in keeping supplies available to the Zikalan forces for the Battle of Nizwa. It has been reported that she took particular joy in hunting down and capturing the ships of Ariyan noblemen, as long as they were aboard. She would then personally behead the aristocrats with an axe, tossing their lifeless bodies overboard.
Even in peace, Sari continues to wage a personal war against Ariya and the Emir Gerad ibn Farid el-Arrasi.
