Cerilia is a troubled land. A chaotic patchwork of nations, cultures, and religions is scattered throughout the land. Wars and feuds are common; even peaceful lands must vigilantly defend their borders against expansive neighbors and the plots of awnsheghlien. There can be no lasting peace until the Bloodlines stand united and end their eternal conflict.
Yet even though the history of Cerilia is a tragic one, there are glorious moments too. Strong kingdoms and rich cities stand from the Sea of Storms to the golden waters of the Dragonsea. It would be the labor of a lifetime to create an exhaustive list of Cerilia's divided realms, its towns and villages, and every dark forest or vine-covered ruin.
In the Royal Observatory of old Anuire, cartographers traditionally divided Cerilia into five regions: Anuire, Rjurik, Brechtur, Khinasi, and Vosgaard. Each was named after the principal people who dwelled there. Of course, over the years the boundaries of kingdoms shift and fail. In many places, the lands have fallen wild, or been claimed by one of the awnsheghlien. Despite this, these five regions make a good starting point for discussing the lands and sites of Cerilia.

[top]Anuire

Anuire covers most of the south-western corner of Cerilia. Its regions and provinces were originally the basis of the Anuirean Empire. Its human population are now known as the Anuireans although in the years prior to Deismaar they were called the Andu.
Note: The Anuireans are loosely based on a mixture of the medieval British/French with a hint of the Romans. As such social class is very important in Anuirean society, most people will live and die in the social class to which they are born. Advancement (and regression) are however possible - anyone who becomes rich and powerful is likely to be inducted into the noble class, while a noble who becomes impoverished is likely to fall in social class unless they can trade their name for another's wealth (i.e. by marrying a rich adventurer).

[top]Brechtur

Northern Cerilia is divided by a massive inlet of the Thaelasian Sea that separates the jagged peaks of the Spearmarch Range from the ice-crowned Drachenaur Mountains of eastern Cerilia.
The lands of the Brecht, known often as the Havens of the Great Bay, include the cold rocky realms of the Western Reaches and the Overlook. The southern realms in the Western Basin States and Eastern Basin states are warmer, flatter, and far more welcoming and generally more cosmopolitan, although tortured Kiergard could hardly be described as such.

[top]Khinasi

The Southernmost portions of Cerilia are the lands of the Khinasi. These lands reach to the Harrowmarsh in the west, to the forests south of Brechtür in the north. to the south is the Baïr el-Mehare and to the east is the Sea of Dragons which separates Cerilia from Djapar, ancestral home of the Basarji. To the south of the Khinasi mainland is the Isle of Ghosts, and further still, the Sahirde el-Mahare (the Golden Archipelago) while to the south east are the Dragon Isles, both island chains are used by the few sailors who dare cross the ocean of Djapar.
The lands of the Khinasi are often referred to as the Cities of the Sun by Anuirean and Brecht scholars. The Anuireans called the southern coast the Saere Siendere, or Sun Coast.
The land splits, loosely, into the Plains states, the Zhaïnge Valley, the Drocandragh, the Island States and the Basarji Islands.

[top]Vosgaard

The most desolate and remote region of Cerilia is called Vosgaard. It lies in the north-eastern reaches of the land, beyond the Drachenaur Mountains and north of the Rhuannadaraight. The cold waters of the Leviathan's Reach form the northern border of Vosgaard, and to the east lie the stormy waters of the Sea of Dragons.

[top]Aduria

The continent of Aduria is located on the planet of Aebrynis, to the south of the continent of Cerilia. It is called the cradle of man and the lost continent by Cerilians. It was originally connected to Cerilia but the Battle of Mount Deismaar destroyed the strip of land between the two continents.
Aduria was not described in detail in the published setting. Instead it has been the site of some of the most creative campaigns of the Birthright game. There was no official map made, with only the north-eastern corner of the continent visible on maps of Cerilia. However, Richard Baker did start one, which Raesene Andu amended using further notes by Richard [1][2].
