I was trying to populate a country the other day when I stumbled over
that 5% of the population which are 'levelled'.
It got me wondering about who these people would be and wether there was
a difference between the races. Especially what effect did the racial
modifiers have on the distribution.
I assumed that for a character to be levelled he had to have:
Con & Cha 9+
Prime Requisite 16+
Three Others 9+
After doing a little math on the subject this is what it worked out to.
Governing Prime Ability
Absolute % Relative %
Levelled Str Dex Int Wis Str Dex Int Wis
Standard Human 5,50% 1,38 1,38 1,38 1,38 25,00 25,00 25,00 25,00
Anuirean 5,63% 1,32 0,61 1,32 2,37 23,48 10,88 23,48 42,16
Brecht 5,63% 1,32 2,37 1,32 0,61 23,48 42,16 23,48 10,88
Khinasi 6,20% 1,29 1,29 2,32 1,29 20,85 20,85 37,44 20,85
Rjurik 5,25% 1,31 1,31 1,31 1,31 25,00 25,00 25,00 25,00
Vos 5,63% 2,37 1,32 0,61 1,32 42,16 23,48 10,88 23,48
Halfling 5,58% 0,15 2,55 1,03 1,86 2,66 45,60 18,40 33,34
Elf 7,65% 0,70 2,72 2,72 1,50 9,16 35,60 35,60 19,65
Half-Elf 4,88% 1,01 1,84 1,01 1,01 20,78 37,65 20,78 20,78
Dwarf 3,33% 3,13 ---- 0,10 0,10 93,90 ----- 3,05 3,05
The only race for which this rule really doesn't work are the dwarves,
they have a maximum Dex of 14 which means that using this rule no Dwarven
thieves would exist.
Other extremes are Elves and Khinasi who seem to have more levellded
people.
The Rjurik are the only race with an completely equal distribution
between Prime Abilities.
Anuireans tend to become Priests
Brechts tend to become Thieves
Khinasi tend to become Mages, Magicians and Guilders
Rjurik have no preference
Vos tend to become fighters
Halflings concentrate in the Priest and Thief classes
Elves concentrate in the Thief, Guilder, Mage classes
Half-Elves tend to become Thieves.
All in all pretty consistent with the culture descriptions.
An other point are the classes with extra abilityscore requirements.
Paladin (Str 12+, Con 9+, Wis 13+, Cha 17+)
Ranger (Str 13+, Con 14+, Dex 13+, Wis 14+)
Bard (Dex 12+, Int 13+, Cha 15+)
Magician (Int 12+, Dex 12+, Wis 14+)
Given that a person is of the aprpiate race the chances to qualify are
like this:
Paladin Ranger Bard Magician
Standard Human 1 in 750 1 in 567 1 in 111 1 in 44
Anuirean 1 in 518 1 in 567 1 in 161 1 in 40
Brecht -------- 1 in 686 1 in 83 1 in 58
Khinasi 1 in 887 1 in 992 1 in 77 1 in 33
Rjurik -------- 1 in 354 1 in 222 1 in 44
Vos -------- 1 in 392 1 in 178 1 in 63
Halfling -------- 1 in 196 1 in 50 -------
Elf -------- 1 in 975 1 in 33 1 in 20
Half-Elf -------- 1 in 651 1 in 72 1 in 30
Dwarf -------- -------- -------- -------
An Khinasi who qualifies for Ranger is rarer as one who qualifies for
Paladin
The Rjurik who have a deep respect for their Bards must have that because
they're so rare (exactly half of normal)
The Demi-Humans qualify easily for Bardhood
Halfling Rangers are more common than Rjurik Bards
All this accounted for all the races but the Dwarves due to their ablity
score ranges the simple formula broke down with their Race
After some tweaking I came up with a division which makes 5,26% of the
Dwarves levelled with an reasonable division between the Classes.
It worked out like this
Dwarves 5,26% Levelled
Absolute Relative
Fighter 1,84% 34,98%
Guilder 1,20% 22,90%
Priest 1,00% 18,94%
Thief 0,83% 15,76%
Fighter/Priest 0,21% 3,99%
Fighter/Thief 0,18% 3,43%
The Requirements for the different classes are a bit more complex
Fighter Guilder plus half Priest plus half Thief
Con 16+ Con 15+ Con 15+ Con 15+ Con 15+ Con 15+
Cha 9+ Cha 9+ Cha 9+ Cha 9+ Cha 9+ Cha 9+
Dex 9-13 Dex 9-14 Dex 9-14 Dex 9-14 Dex 9-14 Dex 14
Int 9-15 Int 16+ Int 16+ Int 9-15 Int 16+ Int 9-15

Int 9-15 Int 16+ Int 9-15
Wis 16+ Wis 16+ Wis 9-15
Str 16+ Str 18 Str 16+
All these requirements are offcourse only abstractions of reality and
only used the indicate the proper mix of classes within a certain race.
Any specific character you make can deviate from the guidelines.
I hope people can do something with this. It seemed such a loss of effort
in calculating these percentages that I decided to post it.
