View Full Version : Rules question

I've got an interesting dilemna, which may or may not have been covered
on this list in the past.
QUESTION
How does a blooded, non-regent mage establish his/her first source to
become a regent?
RELEVANT FACTS
Establishing a source requires regency points, which cannot be
accumulated without controlling sources. Since the blooded mage has no
regency points, it seems impossible for him to establish sources to
become a regent.
Opinions anyone? I would very much to see this problem cleared up in the
upcoming rules revision....if this has been covered before, could
someone please summarize for me?
Thanks much!

If we have a FAQ, this needs to be on it. Here it is again.
Action: Create holding. Cost: 1 GB. Gives you a holding(0).
Action: Rule: Cost, 1 GB, variable RP. Actually, for a holding it is 1
GB and RP equal to the desired level. For a prov, it's GB and RP equal to
the desired level. But wait, there's more. "Ruling a holding or province
from level 0 to level 1 costs 1 GB; no RPs must be spent."
Sorry if that came out short, I pulled an all nighter last night and
need sleep. BR first, though :)

No regency is required to create a holding (source). No regency is
required to rule a holding (Source) from level 0 to level {See page 59 -
Rule: The sentence before "Realm action" is the one you want.} 1. A
level 1 Source generates 1 RP. Hold it for 2 turns and you have enough
regency to raise it from level 1 to level 2. Hold it two more turns and
you have enough regency to rule it from level 2 to level 3.
The trick is to create a bunch of sources and rule them up
simultaneously.

ctually, if you read the create holding domain action, and the rule domain
action, it does not cost any RP to create a holding 0, just 1 GB, and
ruling a hloding 0 to a holding 1, only costs 1GB, no RP. So, you can
"roll your own" sources, it just takes a little while!

Create Holding action only requires gold (2000 gp), not RP's.

Actually, any blooded character can sacrifice a blood point to gain 10 RP.
Now that I start looking for it I can't find it. One of my players found
this in the rulebook, I'll ask around, but I'm pretty sure its in there.
This may not be allowed since it stresses also that "only regents collect
regency points". Choice of an individual DM?

Is this a rule? I don't recall ever reading it...hmmm. Does anyone else
know about this one?
If so, please tell me where I can find info on this...thanks.

Well, its not so much a rule really, as a consequence. It states somewhere
that if a regent does not have enough RP for something, the remainder of
the RP gets taken out of his BS, at a rate of 10 RP per one BS. I think
its in the section on not responding to random events, but I'm not
certain.

Actually, the ruling comes from the Book of Priestcraft under the
Investiture rules. See the Recognition Investiture ceremony Page 78-9.. The
actual example is at the top of page 79 in the first column... 1st paragraph
(not the one continuing from the previous page)...
