Many years ago, I did some research for a friend who wanted to run a =
medieval April fool's feast (beware the SCA, it will cause you to do =
research on the strangest things). Given the results of my findings, =
here is my suggestion for a BR April fools / All fools day;
All fools day has it's origins long before humans came to Cirellia, and =
to this day few races are immune to it's effect. Some say that it is =
chaos left over from the creation of the world, others that it is the =
constraints of an ordered, lawful society that creates the need for an =
outlet for the chaos that runs in all of us and still others believe =
that it is a damn good excuse for a party. Be that as it may, there are =
many - of both lawful & chaotic nature - that would deny the day and =
hide from the festivities, but there are few that will not be denied by =
the day.
The rule of the day is misrule, a peasant, preferably the area's fool, =
holds the crown (or other appropriate symbol), and his word is the only =
law - for the day. princes, bishops and lords dress as peasantry, and =
the usual separations of the classes do not exist, except for those of =
the parade. In addition to the fool, a young woman is chosen as the =
Queen of Misrule, she is given a guard of 4 to 12, armed with sticks for =
swords, and bells for armor - {historically Morris Dancers} and a =
personal guard dressed in green {historically the start of the Maid =
Marrian / Robin Hood story, I believe}. This guard is the only real =
protection from the fair folk.
This day, the fair folk - Brownies, Dryads, Satyr's, etc {originally =
included Kobolds}, have the right to play whatever tricks they like, =
although nothing fatal until dark, with no repercussions the next day, =
none can be held to a promise this day, nor is any deal binding. Some =
Leprechauns and similar use this day to tease the non faerie with what =
they have, then disappear at midnight. The order of preferred targets =
for faerie pranks is firstly those avoiding the festivities in favor of =
their regular activities (a city guard will find that his weapons have =
been replaced with feathers or flowers, a miserly trader will find that =
his coin purse is full only of tissues (used) and a thief may find that =
all the pockets he picks contain mouse traps, itching powder, or even =
12' rabbits), the last to be hassled are the drunk and the simple. =
There should be few restrictions to the effects except that they should =
fade with the first rays of dawn.
From dusk to Midnight is also a time when the paths to the shadow world =
are more easily accessed, and the dead may send messages of comfort to =
loved ones, or terror to those that killed them unjustly.

As the holiday of April Fool's Day is fast approaching in the real =
world, I was thinking of incorporating the festivities into my BR =
campaign. Fool's Day, a kind of free-for-all for Jesters all over =
Cerilia. What I was looking for was suggestions on any appropriate jokes =
or gags that said Jesters might play on their beloved Regents. Nothing =
armful, just annoying and/or humorous. BTW, I was also thinking this may =
be an "official" holiday for Brownies, Leprechauns, and other Fairies =
(which would add to the chaos), so any good dirty little tricks you =
