Hi,

I'd recommend sourthern Anuire if your going to be running in Anuire.
My next choices would be the Rujrik lands. The Adventure/supplement King
Of the Giantdowns is a carve your own kingdom that would be a great
starting point. The plain states of the Khinasa would rank third for me
followed by the Brecht lands and the Vos. The rankings are mostly my
personal preference in regards to the enviorments I like to run.

Take Care,
Kyle

Personally, I'd say it comes down to people's preference and the GM
deciding which domains fit best with the plot he has lined up. I've
run stuff in Taeghas, Alamie, Dhoesone & Roesone in Anuire and done a
couple of one-offs in Stjordvik and Ariya. They're all cool in their
own particular way, and all fitted with the plot I had in mind at the
time of writing.

Want somewhere threatened by bigger countries? Go for somewhere like
Taeghas, Roesone or Tuornen.
Want somewhere that's got more internal problems than that?
Dhoesone's your country.
Want to be in charge of a once-proud state struggling to regain its
dominance? Alamie or Diemed.
Or how about a much smaller, newer realm hoping to survive against
the odds? Medoere or Ilien
Trying to remain free and neutral? Aerenwe or Coeranys.
Threatened by the Gorgon? Elinie.
Bullied by its neighbours? Talinie or Brosengae.
Mercantile? Endier, Cariele or Brosengae.
And these are just the human realms.....

Each has its own advantages. Some have more detail than others, but
from a writing point of view, detail is fairly easy to come up with
once you know what you have in mind (although it doesn't hurt to have
a Players Secrets book to show you the way. Never give those to
players, by the way. They always give away the really juicy secrets
and plotlines ;-). Each should have enough material to get you
started on whatever path you want to take, as long as you have a
vague idea of where you want the story to start.

A question for all of the Birthright veterans out there: In which
region of Anuire (or anywhere else on Cerilia) would you reccommend
to start a BR campaign. I ask as a complete novice, co any advice or
suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

James.

I would argue that the best place to set a birthright campaign is Southern
Anuire. It is the region that has the best mix of regent classes, countires
of approximately even strength, and from a practical point of view, the
most Players Guides.

Roesone seems to be a very popular domain to start out in and I have no
complaints with it either, heck my character is betrothed to the baroness.
(Woohoo!) Seriously, though, I would start your campaign somewhere in south
Cerilia, just so your players don't fear invasion by the Gorgon (however,
sweating it out next to Spiderfell or Rhoubhe could keep them on their toes).
That's my suggestion as a DM of another genre, a veteran player and PC
leader of our gaming party. (This is not a resume.)

Take care all,
Kirby

Well, just where TSR wanted you to: Roesone, Ilien, Medoere with bad
guys of Ghoere and Diemed. Aerenwe is a neutral (friendly) party. Why?
Because you can pick up the domain sourcebooks for all 3 of the players
areas, and both Diemed and Ghoere have pretty good descriptions in the
Ruins of Empire book. You are close enough to the City of Anuire to play
major politics, yet far enough away to keep out of it if you want.

The entire boxed set and lots of other stuff points to playing this
region for beginners, and I think the details supplied in various
supplements compliment this area nicely.

After that, I'd say play Rovninodensk in Vosgaard so your players can be
hopelessly destroyed very quickly and you can say "Yes, that is how NOT
to play Birthright". ;)

I'd say Anuire..I don't really have any proof or evidence or anything to back
it up, but I like Anuire. =) It's the closest to the stereotypical fantasy-
adventure world.

I'm sorry! I mis-read your letter. =) I'd set it somewhere on the Southern
Coast, like, Aerenwe or Roesone or something.

I think that the Medoere/Ilien/Roesone region is probably the best area to
start a campain. There are threats from Deimed and the Spider to contend
with, but neither is invading just yet. Roesone has many ruined castles for
adventuring. Also none of the nations are completely "wrong" for PC use, all
are well balanced and unique.
