This raises another question. Would that same scion of Reynir be able
to use his ability on the Awnshegh "the Wolf?"

Almost certainly the Blooded Character....What AD&D product allows
werewolves to control (regular) wolves?

For this I would say no, since the awnshegh is not a natural creature
(methinks that Animal Affinity only applies to influence over the
natural world).
