Hmmm. This is interesting. I like the idea of being a source holder extending
one's life, though I think lifespan * highest source/2 is a little high... I mean,
it gets pretty close to giving every mage the Long Life blood ability at minor
strength, which would grant a lifespan of x5. Not quite the same, but very
similar. How about making it so that a wizard who controls a source of 4+ ages as
if wearing a Phylactery of Long Years?

Go ahead, it is your campaign. I would still however consider my
suggestions for giving wizards more money. I find it helps the campaign if
all the PC's can play in the political sessions as well as the adventuring
sessions.

Another way could be to add [highest source level]*20 years to the
characters max lifespan and this would change with gain or loss of source.
So a character who would be 240 years old losses one one source level from
his/her highest would die at the same moment.

By the way, has anyone of you DM's ever rolled that "max lifespan" roll for
the characters?

Characters have never lived long enough in my campaigns for it to become an
issue.... :-) Because I didn't want this info to accidentally fall into the
player's hands I eventually decided that I would not roll this data until it
became necessary. That is, when a character got old enough to run into the
possibility of dying of old age. It still hasn't happened. I expect the Fates
will be rolling my dice before I roll any for a PC in a campaign I run.
