I can see Jim Cooper's approach here, even though I probably represent the
opposite polar extream of how I like to employ the gods.

I love that part of the game. But I certainly don't think its neccesary to
a good campaign. Likewise, Jim's ideas on the Serpant, while interesting
and a worthy element in making his campaign even richer, do nothing for me.
But, I think that's what makes it so much fun to be both a DM and a player.
