All of it. Since Birthright is out of print, it is best to get what you can before
it is gone forever. But if you are looking to buy only some stuff, here are my top
suggestions:

- -Book of Priestcraft: Exelent book that really expands on priests and thier spells
(inc. Realm spells)
- -Book of Magecraft: Like the BoP
- -Player's Secrets of Tuarhievel: All of the player's secrets books are pretty good
but most are limited in their use (you've got to be running a campaign in that
realm). But this book acts like a mini Guide to Cerilian Elves too.

I'd also suggest that you get the regional expansions. Even if you don't intend to
play in that region, it gives you a better feel for Cerilia's overall culture and
allows you to throw neat stuff about El-Hadid into your Anuirean game :-)

If you wish only to have the most "core" materials that you will essentially
need to run a game anywhere in Cerilia I suggest the following:

The Main Rules Box (I know, DUH)
All four Campaign expansions
The Book of Magecraft
The Book of Priestcraft

After that it gets pretty optional and depends on your situation.

Blood Enemies details the Awnsheghlien, but is the weakest product for the
"core" system. There are some bright spots in it, and the expanded blood
abilities is almost worth the cost of the book alone. Go with your gut
instinct on this one. I don't like a large part of it personally, but it's
very hard to say "no" to the extra blood abilities.

Players secrets are really optional. If you aren't going to run a campaign
in a particular nation, there is no real point in picking up the book.
Tuarheivel and Baruk Azhik excepted as they both offer insight into the
Cerilian cultures that translate across the realms of those races.

The modules are extremely optional. I have every one of them, and they could
be good, but I've never had players in the right place to run them, and
haven't felt I missed much.

Legend of the Hero Kings fits in with the modules. It's actually a good, and
interesting book. Better than any module because it suggests a whole lot. I
was disappointed with the fact that it drops a new tieghumveril (ok I
spelled that wrong) weapon, as I feel that those should be reserved for the
DM as they are really blockbuster items for a game; but that's my opinion
again. This one is probably worth it if you find it at the right price.

Good luck in your quest finding the books. If you really get stuck, I know
of a shop in Michigan that still has some of the Players Secrets books. They
don't advertise mail orders service; but perhaps they would make an
exception or something :)

I've seen several others have already commented on this, but I'll give my
feedback.

I would say of course you need to put your hands on and hold tight, if you
can find any of the region accessories they are a must, as well a the Blood
Enemies (noone has yet mentioned that you also get lots of Warcards there
too..
Of the PS's I would buy Roesone since it was the first one that came out.
And as such it has a few general concepts about BR that you can't find
anywhere else. And of course you should buy the PS of where you start (and
in my game there is no things as a PLAYERS Secrets....all of them have been
renamed DM's secrets, my players see what I want them too in those books.
:) And you should consider buying the PS from the neighbooring states if
they exist.

BOP, BOM are a must anwhow I would say, especially BOM which is incredibly
hard to find.

Stear away from the adventures though...Sword and Crown is OK - Good, but
the Warlock of the Stonecrowns and the Sword of Roele are both way to High
Magic and Outerplanar for my taste...

What you really should try to find though is the novel Iron Throne, it is
required reading for any BR fan I think, I loved that book...and it seems
several others on this list does too...

About the starting place for your campaign, I started my one in Tuornen
(which has a nice PS BTW), which works very fine for me....It makes a
campaign were the players are surrounded by enemies, but still with great
potential for adventure, especially in the Five Peaks area...

As a hint to a freshly starting BR DM, try to make the players fight for
every GB and RP they get... (let them get what they want on a personal
level, i.e. Plate Mail is fine), That way you don't have to be afraid they
will misuse the Rule action or any other, since to properly abuse them you
need lots of GB and RP. And you can always after a few "test-turn" slowly
give them a bit more....

If you are interested I've changed a few of the warcard rules after a few
sessions of using them for battles and have my set of house rules...just
contact me for a copy.

Here is my reply:
yes, not to sound 'me, too!'-ish, but Tourbnen is a great place to
start, IMO. i would highly recommend it. there are so many places for
adventues: Rhoubhe, Avanil, Endier, Boeruine, Alamie, Five Peaks. and
all are truly excellent.
if you want, i can give you some adventure ideas. just tell me a
little more about your characters when they are made. feel free to
send that to this list, maybe everyone else can give out some ideas,
too.
