You know what really works great for this? Tracing paper. Trace out the
country they have explored yet.

BACKROUND: In my BR campaign, the PCs have recently been rewarded by
Archduke Boeruine with a commission in the army. My plan is for them to
do nothing for six months or so (Training actions to learn basic
strategy and logistics). After that I shall send them into the Five
Peaks on a mission from the Archduke. They'll get 200 infantry (one
unit) under thier direct command and two other units working in
cooperation. Thier goal will be to survey the terrain, gain an estimate
of the overal defense rating of the provice (ie. how many enemy soldiers
can be expected in one province), and kill the warriors in any lightly
defended tribes and take whatever provisions or valueables that can be
found (my players are NE and LN).

MY QUESTION: And ideas on how to run this? I was thinking about using
normal battle minatures (with each mini representing a group of 50 men)
for battles themselves, but what about when marching around? I don't
want them to see the map of the entire province but I can be guarenteed
to be able to cover it properly with another sheet of paper. Any ideas?

Now for the conclusion (for those interested): My players have been
asking for something diffrent (one request was for guns) so here I
decided to give it to them. While in the Peaks, they run across a boy
(13-14 for the developing blood abilities idea discussed last month on
the list). He is basically an Anakin Skywalker. (If you don't want to
know anything at all about Espisode I, don't read the following,
although it isn't spoiling really). He had no father and his mother
fled the Gorgon's Crown about nine months before he was born. She was a
good person (like Anakin's mother) and just happened to sleep in the
field where the great battle between Roele and the Gorgon occured (and
where Roele's grounded power was). The 13-yo has Anakin's general
personality: nice, very helping and caring and also intelligent. From
there I need to tie in a few bridges but essenitally, the boy goes to
the Imperial City with the PCs (the Chaimberlain is thier friend) where
he is crowned Emperor after he meets with the regents of several of
Anuire's realms who will support him. The Chaimberlain's men had also
discovered gunpower at about 235 MR. Since then the limited
experimenting has allowed the development of (as I hate those lesser guns) as
well as cannons and such. The inventions were kept a very close secret
(thanks to spells) and were to be given to the new Emperor to help in
solidifying his rule. And it goes on from there...

For the map bit you might consider the following (I haven't tried it so I
don't know if it will work):

Use the imprint of the map. You know how in the movies the detective will take
a notepad and shade it in with a pencil so that what was written on the
previous page would show up as white lettering? Try doing this with the map and
shade in the bits that the characters have explored.

electronicly, then you can simply delete the unexplored portions and use what
you need... Anyway I would advise looking at that material for gathering ideas
from my take on it...
