That blows my mind! I knew it was *possible* that what Matt had
developed was a bastardization of something else, but I wasn't around
then, and didn't know. What *is* Chivalry and Sorcery?

It should be noted that the system presented here is an adaptation of the old
Chivalry & Sorcery Battlesystem for Paper & Pencil, outlined in the C&S
Accessory II, using even the same terms as the old C&S Battlesystem does
(Strategic Stance etc.). I like the adaptation, but considering that Matthew
reminded us all of keeping the authorship recognition, I felt that a reminder as
to the >real< original authorship might be appropriate.
For those interested, C&S Accessory II also applies this system to sieges and
naval battles. My group has been using the system for the last ten years in our
Birthright-style political campaign and found it especially useful for resolving
large scale battles. Matt Thomas seems to have done a nice job on converting it
for use with AD&D. We have used somewhat different numbers (lower point value
for the Mages et al), but it is really up to the DM whether he wants battle
magic to be a power to be reckoned with.
Magic and morale are two factors which are somewhat neglected in the Paper &
Pencil Battlesystem (consider the shock value of a wing of dragons flying over a
peasant army), but adaptations can be made by using the rules from the more
elaborate C&S Battlesystem in C&S Accessory I, which is intended for tabletop
play, but meshes quite well with the paper and pencil system. If anyone is
interested in more details, I'll be happy to provide them.
