Borders, borders, borders!!! That's basically why I bought the BRight
set. I tend to run exceptionally complex political campaigns and you
just can't do that in a world like Forgotten Realms where no-one has any
idea who's in charge of what.
Since then, I've fallen in love with Cerilia. It's a great setting as
long as you don't mind tweaking it a little. I mostly just add a few
more fantastic elements to make it High Fantasy.

I was reading through some of the postings on Birthright and other TSR
worlds and I was curious. Why did you choose the Birthright setting?
Other settings offer certain RPG attractions, what attracted you to
Birthright?
For myself the answer is the unique "flavor" of the Birthright world. I
like the defined cultures and backgrounds. I think is would be easy to
tell the difference between a native of Vos and a Bretcht where the
Forgotten Realms you can't tell a native of Amn from Sembia from
Battledale. That's my outlook, what is yours?

Why do I like Birthright? That's a good question. I'm 25 and have been
playing AD&D since 3rd grade. After about 1992 I became very
discouraged with TSR and the quality of materials that they were
publishing. A few exceptions are Al Quadim and some Spelljammer
things. I stopped buying TSR material although I still played. All this
changed at Origins when I happened across Birthright. The thing that
caught my attention first was the new art! For once TSR was using
quality art that didn't come from a previous Dragon cover! Then I was
attracted to the concept of playing kings and controlling realms.
The BIrthright setting is appealing because of the cultural distinctiveness
and, for TSR, it's uniqueness while avoiding a power gamer setting (i.e.
Dark Sun). All this being said I currently don't have any players so I'm
not running a Birthright campaign. If I had players I still wouldn't.
Instead
I'm currently trying to adapt Midkemia & Kelewan from Raymond Feists
books to the Birthright system. I'd allow acces to Cerilia though through
the hall of worlds...

Everything he said above is true. I also have the same reasons for
purchasing it.

Hello, all. :)
I bought it because I was already running a political-type campaign,
where all the people were leaders of the country under a king. I bought
the setting because I thought it'd help me organize my own campaign
better. It did!
As far as the "where are you" question goes, I'm in Ames, Iowa, in the
United States. I attend Iowa State University where I hope to earn
degrees in Computer Science and Spanish (and get a minor in Business).
There's quite a bit of role-playing here, since it is a college town.
My group usually gets together once or twice a week to play, and one
game is my Birthright campaign.
Well, back to work. As far as the newsletter goes, I'm sorry I haven't
done much with it, but I'm just been VERY busy lately. If somone else
(hint, hint, Laura) wants to take up the reins, I'll gladly volunteer my
time once things settle down.
Take care, all!

Well I was hesistnat to try it out at first, but a friend of mine
'dragged' me to the box set he bought and explained it to me. I still
wasn't convinced until I plaued several sessions. I LOVE IT! It's so
totally different (high level campaigning from level 1) and so very
well created for the more experienced player who wants something
different than your average adventure (though I donot count myself
among the very well experienced I met and spoken to, but I did crave
for something else). What I have to say about the other wordls is
that I appreciate them more then I used to for what they offer:
action packed adventure, fame and fortune for those who survive,
simple life, not many things on your head. What do you all think?

The sole reason I originally picked up Birthright was that I was after a
set of decent rules for the running and administration of dominions. The
only thing I had previously was in D&D Companion Set.
