Haelynir 569

Medoere:
A mysterious illness has swept across the kingdom this month effect even =
those
in the church or Rournil. The high priest Lenviath da Enlien has been str=
uck
down and is unable to perform his duties. Spells cast by the priest have =
done
little to stop the spread of the disease so far. =

The illness leave a victim weak and tired, but has yet to prove fatal. A =
cure
is yet to be found. The church is said to be very concerned about its spr=
ead
and has called for anyone with information about the disease to see them.=

Roesone:
A group of Goblins has raided several villages in the northern province o=
f
Ghoried this month. Rather than send out the army Baron Farrel Kawn went
himself to seek out the Goblins. He found the Goblin's base in an ancient=

ruined monastery. After a short battle the regent drove off the nasty
creatures without any help from the army.
In other news a minor guild war has broken out in the province of Ilien a=
s
several merchants fight for control of the rich farmland outside the city=
of
Ilien.

Diemed:
Trouble between the temple of Haelyn and the new Rournil temple in Moere
continues. =

Members of the opposing faith have been arrested fighting openly in the
street. The =

Baron is now worried that this trouble may lead to open warfare between t=
he
two opposing faiths.

Endier:
Regent Lauriel Kalien has been seen visiting the renowned wizard Caine se=
veral
times in the last week. This has lead to rumours in the city that the two=
may
be romantically involved. The regents staff have quashed these rumours sa=
ying
instead that Lauriel was consulting the wizard on matter important to the=

realm.
In other news the Endier government has decided to reintroduce the Endier=

militia. The government justify this decision by saying that Endier canno=
t
rely on Ghoere help all the time. The new 600 strong militia will receive=

training as soldiers and will be used to patrol Endier northern and easte=
rn
borders.

Imperial City:
The Avanil navy has now taken to patrolling the harbour to prevent a repe=
at of
last =

months battles between rival merchant vessels. The Heartlands Outfitters =
have
been =

the only guild so far to welcome the move.
In other news. The funeral of Princess Neila, wife of prince Darien Avan,=
was
held in Daulton, the capital of Avanil, two weeks ago. Many of the noble
families of Avanil and surrounding kingdoms sent representatives to the
funeral to offer their commiserations to the grieving prince.

Spiderfell:
The spider has sent several patrols into Roesone and Medoere over recent
weeks. In =

Roesone the goblin raiders were successful in setting up a small base and=

raiding several villages before being destroyed. The forces sent into Med=
oere
turned back without success.

Ghoere:
Vaesil Tael has toured much of Ghoere this month to visit with the people=
he
now rules over. High on his list of places to visit was the sites of the =
new
forts being built along Ghoere's southern border. He is said to be very
pleased with the progress.

Gorgon's Realm:
Agents of the Gorgon have been accused of destroying a castle in Rohrmarc=
h =

last =

month. The castle was in the province of Osternord and held stores and we=
apons
for =

Prince Oden's forces. Reports of what exactly happened are still confusin=
g,
but a traveller for that far off land has reported that a Mur-Kilad dwarf=
, a
relative of the Gorgon's Dwarven general, was seen during the attack. Als=
o
present was a strange cloaked figure that seemed to be able to stun the
defenders of the castle by the power of the mind. =

The traveller did not see any more as he fled the area as quickly as poss=
ible.
Perhaps this means that the Gorgon is ready to add yet another kingdom to=
his
realm. =

Spies in Kiergard have seen nothing out of the ordinary however.

Other News this month:

A traveller from the far east has told a tale of being rescued from drown=
ing
by a strange green haired maiden who swam easily through the water in the=

company to several dolphins. The sailor is not usually known for making u=
p
stories.

Priests of Haelyn travelling through Doesone on a missionary mission to
convert the =

northern heathens were killed when their caravan was attacked by wolves a=
s
they =

neared the northern border of the kingdom. Strangely the wolves attacked =
no
other =

members of the caravan.

There is a world just around the corner of your mind
where reality is an intruder and dreams come true.
You may escape into it at will, you need no secret password,
magic wand or Alladins Lamp, all you need is your own imagination...

The creature in question is a Awnshegh that I designed to be a powerful enemy
for my players. He is similar in appearance to a mind flayer, and yes does
have Psionic abilities, the only creature in my campaign to do so. Most of the
psionic powers he has however are not that dangerous.
For stats see the MM entry on Psionic mindflayers.
As for the reason to introducing psionics. Well if most of your players are
around 15th level or so they tend to be a bit hard to control with magic due
to their good saving throws, but are vunerable to psionic powers.
