Greetings,
I felt the need to write this post are rereading some of the comments made
over the past few days. I have been at this game for many years and I, like
most people, went from loving to roll-play to loving to role-play. But
something needs to be said on the positive side of the Wargame aspects of
BR. As TSR evolved as a company the AD&D settings have evolved as well. Each
of them now contains many unique factors, and rules, that make them
individual. Most of these things are there to enhance role-playing, but some
things are just new mechanics. For BR the new mechanic is its ability to be
a Wargame. In fact its one of the reasons I like it so much. I play(and
DM)in several different campaign worlds, and I also play several Wargames.
Until BR came along there were many weeks when we had to decide to play one
or the other, now we can play both. I glad Mr. Baker(and friends)had the
foresight to find a way to mix the two so well. Other attempts at this have
always fallen flat. Still the Wargame part of BR is important to the game
itself at least as important as the role-playing side. Its important not to
lean towards one or the other too much, only with a good mix can you
generate the full BR feeling, at least IMHO. :)
