Elrond, a newbie.

[Elrond]

I’d like to introduce myself... I have chosen, as a nick, the name of the most famous half elf of fantasy literature: Elrond (yes, it’s an half elf). I’m from Rome (Italy) and I’m 30 years old.
I appreciate really much the work you are doing here with my favourite campaign setting. Bravo! Unfortunately, Birthright is even less known in my country than it is outside, mostly because it has never be translated (and Italians are not famous for their love of foreign languages).
I hope I’ll bring good ideas and I beg your pardon if my English is not always perfect (my French is better).

P.S.: Are there any supporters of the Real Madrid football team? “Catenaccio” and “Defensivist” Italian football (and Juventus F.C.) is pleased to thank you for your demonstration of spectacular soccer. :P

Hi Elrond. There are other Europeans around here, nice to have some more international members.

I still prefer the German soccer clubs (which were really bad this season in the champions league).

I vote for Emmanuelle Beart. OK, she might not be _technically_ a half-elf,
but she definitely looks more sidhelien than Hugo Weaving and is much hotter
than either of the mooks you guys have mentioned. (She`s also my pick to
play the Queen of the Sielwode if I were the casting agent for Birthright:
The Movie.)

HERETIC!!! All right-thinking people know it`s Elrond! I might let you
live if you acknowledge that all you meant by that is that though Elrond
is called "Half-Elven", he is technically nine-sixteenths elven, and his
daughter Arwen is therefore twenty-five-thirty-seconds elven, so although
you know they are both more famous than this Krynnish upstart, you weren`t
considering them solely out of respect for their exact genealogies. Even
then, I still think you are insulting Elrond`s eminent father, Earendil
the Mariner, and his most impressive great-grandmother, Luthien Tinuviel;
those two were the only offspring of any cross-species mating in
Middle-Earth who were literally 50% elf. =)

More seriously, I don`t actually know the relative numbers of print run
sizes, but I still definitely think more people have read _The Lord of the
Rings_ than have read a Dragonlance book. In any case, without Elrond`s
family`s prior popularity, there could have been no Dragonlance.

Though actually, now that the LoTR movies are out and we`ve seen how
things have been rewritten, I suspect Elrond`s daughter Arwen has become
even more famous than her dad. (no, not the guy from Aerosmith ;)

Down boy, I just LOTR's is good I liked it but it is not the best story out there. JRR Tolken was a very smart guy that spent to much time in the trenches of WW1, and I think his book are albout that... I do not care what he seid after the fact. I think the Chronicles and Legends are much better. Now form what I can remamber for LOTR's about Elrond in not that important, he just just has a cool background. He does not have any of the elven rings of power, he was just at the battle that the "one ring" was taken form Sauron. Also In the Similarian (that is not how you spell it) he was battle and in my opion he could have taken the right for the human and destroyed it him self... (that might be in the untold stoies, and getting the books mixed up, and I hope I am not throwning any of the movie in there.)

That`s fine! It`s not my favorite either.

It`s quite clear they`re heavily influenced by his time at the Somme;
Frodo`s march to certain death through blasted Mordor is a darn clear
parallel. What he denied was that the book was about World War *Two*,
which happened while he was writing it but in which he did not
personally get shot at. That particular denial I mostly believe.

To each his own, I suppose. I found the DL stuff OK, but not very
compelling. In any case, you raised an issue of fact rather than of
taste; it should be possible to determine whether Tolkien or Weis and
Hickman have sold more books. I just don`t know where to find that out.

Actually, he does. It`s how he is able to cause the river to flood and
wash away the Nazgul.

He was the second-in-command of the elves there, and the highest-ranking
elf to survive. He has an excellent claim to be High King of the elves,
through both of his parents, but he chooses not to use the title -- for
which the only other possible contender is his mother-in-law, Galadriel.

Silmarillion. IMO, vastly better than LoTR or especially the Hobbit.

Well, bits of the story are present in a number of different places; at
least some of it is presented directly in LoTR.

In the movie, he should definitely have just pushed Isildur in. =)
