My interpretation for a campaign
I want to start out by saying that I absolutely love Birthright. I have
been playing Dungeons and Dragons since the first boxed set with dice
chits. However, I have yet to actually run a Birthright campaign and make
use of the of Regency aspect of the game. I have always used the game as a
new world for my players to start out from the beginning and try to carve
out their own way in the world. The campaign I am currently running has the
party scouring the continent for pieces of an Amulet of Arachnid control.
If they are able to get a hold of all of the pictures, they will then have
to proceed back to the Spiderfell to defeat the Spider in some way. I don't
really think that the party will be able to kill the Spider, but I think
they will be able to get through the Spiderfell far enough to encounter the
Spider and use the Amulet on him. All they need to do is find a way to stop
from the Spider from trying to conquer the Roesone.
I have found that doing things in this way helps to bring out the richness
of the continent and the cultures found there. I hope that one of them at
least will come back from their quest and do something to set up themselves
as a Regent in one form or another. It's not that I don't like the aspect
of running domains, but I haven't had the chance to play Birthright with a
group where there was anyone else that knew about the continent other than
me. When I am able to get a group together that all (or at least a
majority) understand the world, then I will try running things from the
perspective of a regent. Are there any other DM's out there that also
follow this tack with Cerilia?
