Nationalism?
Nationalism in BR? I don't think so. I have reciently been reflecting on the
people of Cerilia. They are in a wartorn land of constant border changing in
all of the BR games I have been involved with. I have begun to think that the
average person thins of themselves not as Avanese, but as Dhalese, Calnorian,
Nantrilian. Theyidentify with the local more then with the ruler. Now true, in
the bigger states, they will identify that they are included, but they will
still say I am Nantrilian to others before I am Avanese (Unless of course,
they are in the government). Without schools to preach the "greatness" of
their domain, they will identify with their provience before their nation.
Just a few thoughts

I agree. Here are some more thoughts:
In Rjurik, loyalty would go to the family or clan.
In Vos, loyalty would go to the warlord, chief or king personally.
In Brechtur, loyalty would go to guy with the most money, the richest merchant
king.
No where in Cerilia would I think the ideas of nationalism would have yet been
developed. I think it would be folly for a Player Character to believe that
her people would fight and die for Queen & Country. Nope. "THEY'RE the
blooded ones. THEY'RE the nobility. Let them solve their own problems. THEY
have all the our tax money." Etc. Only those with a direct, immediate reason
to serve would fight. By this I mean the military (willingly mustered), paid
retainers, vassals who don't have the balls to rebel (Yet!), allies, and
levies pressed into military service.
That's pretty much the way I make it in my campaign. 'Course in the long run,
it doesn't make much difference--there'll usually always be _someone_ willing
to fight for the regents (if only to get a cut of the treasury!).

I agree totally, as nationalism is quite new even in our world, it's
first during late 18th, early 18th centoury you can start talking about
nationalism where the lower classes has been invovled.
