This is a [[SRD]] category for CR2 creatures. Low level threats such as this are enough to concern a handful of villagers, but would generally be considered something that the militia should be able to deal with. That does not of course mean that the sheriff won't want help, or that the posse rounded up to deal with the threat won't include the PC's. A CR2 creature is more than most casual folk will dare to face alone, though almost any group of people should contain a number of heroes - or fools - who will dare deal with the threat - such as the PC's.
