Constance Alam

Constance Alam is the widow of Orvaene Tael, the Baron of Ghoere. The second marriage of Ghoere to a great Anuiean house, but the first to the line of another of the great dukes. She was the daughter of Herran Alam and Serta Deseirain. They had a daughter, Ellaen Serta Tael before Orvaene's death at the Battle of Danaroene Field. Being a child, Ellaen did not succeed, the throne going to her uncle, and Contance's brother-in-law, Gavin Tael.
Constance was brought up by her mother until the age of six when she was sent to the Deseirain family as a page. She then served the Laraeth family as a lady in waiting, until her twelfth birthday, when she returned to her father's house and was presented to court.
Her father was a diplomat, keen to avoid the series of wars that had so strained treasury during his father's reign. He married Aesele Alam, Constance's older sister to Daeric Mhoried, the heir to Alamie's eastern neighbor, and married Constance to Orvaene Tael, the heir of the newly united state of Ghoere.
When her husband died, she tried to preserve the succession of her daughter, and floated the notion that she might reign as an interim regent. When Gavin Tael secured the throne, Constance was reluctant to accept a lower status than the dowager baroness consort Cordeilla Tuor or even her sister-in-law, Laurel Tuor, the current baroness consort. She wears robes of the same quality as the baroness consort and walks only half a pace behind her. The Tuor family, of course, hail from Tuornen.
