Description: , lbs. A big brawny man Dane is in the prime of his life and as strong as an ox. His wild red hair and bushy beard make him seem larger than life - an impression only strengthened by his booming laugh.
Possessions: Giantsbane Claymore +2, the blade glows faintly in the presence of evil giants and does +2d6+4 damage to them. Even more precious to Dane than the blade however is Llewellyn's Tear, a small vial given to him by a nomad whose life he once saved. Once a month, if filled with clear water under the light of the full moon, the water gains the power of the land's gift - able to cure most wounds, poisons and illnesses. (Each use of the potion requires 1 RP to recharge the Tear)
Typical Dialogue:
A gift for the Baroness? Hah! Tell her she?s welcome to join me on my next hunt, the head of a great elk would be a fitting gift would it not? And proof this she is not some tree-witched pretty to boot!
Aedric! To horse my old friend. Some fool of a hunter has wounded a bear and left it to roam in anger. After the bear mayhaps we will find this hunter and thrash some sense into him!
[top]Biography:
Dane Ceolfrithsson is the half-brother and presumptive heir of Ingrid Redwolf, Countess of Giant's Fastness. His wife is Linna Djursunsdotter.
Dane considers Sonnelind to be far away and uninterested in the lands to the south and accordingly ignores his duties to the crown in the main part, preferring to hunt and fish. He is not particularly disloyal ? he just doesn?t see much point in the crown and would prefer to be left alone by it ? a favor he would happily return. If not for his half-sister Ingrid and wife, Dane would never set foot south of Soniele. This attitude makes Fhiele Dhoesone and her courtiers reluctant to see him as count, but his heroism makes him the obvious candidate to the folk of Giant's Fastness.
Dane considers himself as much Rjurik as Anuirean and should his sister?s son Shaene Redwolf prove unworthy as heir (as is likely to be the case) then Dane intends to be named as a ?jarl? not ?count? and hold court in a typical Rjuvik longhouse rather than the small forts and manors favored by Anuirean gentry.
Dane is a near legendary hunter in Dhoesone, one of the few men brave enough to hunt deep into the Giantdowns. As a youth he tracked raiding goblin slavers back to Sage's Fen in the Gorgon's Crown to free some of his people and he won his great claymore Giantsbane from a chieftain of Chur that he slew for similar provocation.
A good friend to Jarl Olfjor of Arvaald in Stjordvik, and even greater friend of Count Nolien; Dane is a man?s man with no time for fripperies of civilization ? any who cannot keep up with a hunt or look him in the eye will meet with only his disdain.
Dane has several children with his wife Linna Djursunsdotter, the eldest, his daughter Elke Danesdotter is just growing to adulthood, with his sons, bear-cubs all as Ingrid described them, not far behind. Elke is a free spirit who roams the woods alone. Some call the girl simple minded, others say she is wild, those who know her see however that she simply adores wandering the woods. Despite her beauty and family wealth Elke is unmatched as any man foolish enough to court Elke would have her extremely over-protective brothers and father to deal with. Recently Elke is said to have fallen for a youth for she has been seen walking with a lad in the woods. For all her brother?s attempts they have never managed to get close to the slight youth who seems to disappear into the woods without so much as a whisper.
