Herzog (feminine: Herzogin) is a title among the Brecht which identifies the ruler of a realm. The word comes from the High Brecht word "zog" (past tense of "ziehen") which means dragged, and "Heer" meaning "army", or one who leads the army.
A Herzog's realm is generally referred to as a Herzogtum.
