[top]Introduction

Caliene Llwelyn 's domain seems to be the only source domain in the Outlook to actually feel any sort of good will towards the region. Caliene LLwelyn herself is devoted to promoting welfare in Grevesmühl and to fulfill the land's long squandered promise of prosperity.

[top]The Land

Ley lines carefully connect all the source holdings of this domain, forming a protective web across Grevesmühl. Recently, the relationship between Caliene and King Kallen Pickbiter allowed the sorceress to extend a ley line in the fortress city of Dhaikar.

Caliene holds the sources of Grevesmühl with the interest of order. In Jardwessen, where she has built her sanctuary, she is revered as the true upholder of the law, and a smalls shrine wer built on the main road, were people leave small spontaneous tributes and help requests, should they be in distress. Anyone trying to steal from the sorceress or - worse - to leave false messages to lure her into traps has found himself in dire circumstances.

Caliene herself often wanders through the realms, choosing to help people in distress and to take matters into her own hands, an habit that has brought the sorceress many adventures and perils.

[top]History

The history of Caliene's domain begins in 546 MR, when she and her party defeated an hideous undead lord in an ancient temple in Jardwessen. There, she found the Staff of geomancy, which allowed her to forge ley lines with ease. Caliene spent the following years at the service of the duke of Grevesmühl and king Pickbiter to raise enough money to further her studies into domain magic. Thanks to this experience Caliene understood how little the duke cared about his realm, and felt that Grevesmühl deserved better. In the meanwhile, she saved a small pack of goblins in Tyrpet from an assault of Gnoll marauders, and they in turn became her court.

When she had enough confidence, she started wandering the highlands, searching for junction between the material plane and the shadow world. Caliene claimed mebhaighl sources near to those spots so that she could monitor any undead activity.

[top]Political

The Black Ice Traders, Colin Shaefpaete and the duke of Grevesmühl all stands as enemies of her cause in one way or another.

Caliene has made a vassalage deal with Daikhar Zhigun, her adoptive land. The dwarves will always stands at her side in matters of defense or justice and in return she provides help with the seldom (but not rare) occasion in which the Tsarina of Rzhlev tries something funny with magic or against any marauder; The dwarves will however assume a neutral stance when it's about business matters.

The wizard is sometimes referred as the Blue rose, a term Caliene herself hates, as she is seen as an alternative to the church and the kleptocray promoted by the Traders. The highlanders love her and would see her as a perfect replacement for Karlburgher himself. The relationship with the Rosenweißen is complicated: the wizard has often come into help for the knights of the Guard, and she has a special relationship with the Gunther of Rulfsberg himself. Although Caliene sees Luther Helmsen as a good-willed man and an important figure, she doesn't like the idea of putting all the political power into the hands of an ideological force such as the church - what if the extremists take control of the kingdom?

Caliene keeps a low level court compared to the other domains - the wizard prefer to travel in person and use the goblin court for tiresome matters only.

[top]Plots and Rumours

  • Caliene has always met Gunther in her travels, however, the wächter seems nowhere to be found these days. Has something happened to him? Maybe someone is trying to exploit Caliene's complex feelings towards him to manipulate the wizard...
  • When Caliene reclaimed the arcane power of the forgotten halls in Mjolinnar, an ancient evil was awakened. Now the dwarves of the mines are finding themselves disappearing during late night excavations...
  • Colin Shaefpaete's holdings allow the pirate wizard to control politics inside the coastal provinces. And money eventually reach anywhere magic can not. Caliene may or may not use a hand to regain control of the sources, but she needs for sure someone versed enough in political matters to infiltrate the court of Dubeswald...
  • Speaking of a possibile source holding war, Caliene would greatly benefit from some intel about Colin's ley line situation. Word is the wizard has found a way to trace lay lines, but she needs a blooded adventure (perhaps a wandering knecht?) to perform a ritual where Colin has put his source holding control.
  • The war may already have started. Word is that one of the goblins in her court has started behaving weird, for a goblin at least. Could it be that he sold the secret of Caliene's sanctum secret entrance? Investigation is in order.

[top]Assets

The BRCS has implemented as official many spells related to ley lines. DM may consider giving one or two of these to Caliene, to represent her special interest in reasearching ley lines.

Caliene is supposed to have her domain covered in ley lines. The following is a representation of Caliene's ley line connection, assuming she went for the cheapest way possible instead of going for level 4 (thus connecting every province to Jardwessen).

[top]Special considerations

Despite being a wizard and benefiting from source holdings, Caliene sees the wilderness of the countryside as a waste. She will endorse and support anyone trying to improve progress.

The vassalage deal with Daikhar Zhigun (magic in exchange for gold) is worth 2 GB per season; it's Caliene's duty to protect the provinces of Daikhar, Mjollinar and Tyrtep.
