All fan fiction pages are required to use certain templates that denote that players created them. These tags ensure that users of BRWiki will be aware of when they are reading information from official Birthright canon lore and when they are reading player created material.

• If your article serves as a roleplaying biography of a player character, see the player character section.
  
• If your article serves as an information page about yourself as a member of the community (not the character you play), see the player information section.
  
• If your article is a recounting of events happening in Birthright that do not reflect Birthright canon history or lore, but may be retold in a similar fashion, see the observations section.
  
• For all other types of fan fiction, see the generic fan fiction section.
  

As per the Personal articles policy, your fan fiction should most likely be placed under your user page, e.g. [[User:Kang the Great/My fanfic article]]. Only if you want no control over your work should it be placed in the main namespace (e.g. [[How the Elves evolved from Trolls]]).

We require that fan fiction be clearly marked as such. The tags to use depends on the kind of fan fiction you're writing. See below.

• For a biography of a Player Character you must include the {{PC}} template to the top of the article. This template will add a banner at the top of the page that looks like this:
  

• It will also add your article to the category Player Characters.
  
• Please do not add your page to any other categories, such as Rangers or Anuireans.
  
• If your player page is incomplete or unfinished you should put the {{Stub/Player}} template at the top.
  
• Describe the basic stats of your character, including Race, Bloodline, class, level, derivation, and a brief overview of its equipment.
  
• Write a roleplaying biography.
  

• If you are making a page describing events from your characters persepective, then you must include the [template]Observation[/template] template to the top of the article. This template will add a banner at the top of the page that look like this:
  

• It will also add your article to the category Observations.
  
• If you you want to place your observation in context of Birthright canon lore, you might want to place a link in the The New Place%2C Birthright Creativity Center.
  
• DO NOT add your observations to articles in the Lore category.
  

• For fan fiction that does to meet one of the specific categories above, add the {{Fanfic}} template to the top of the article. This template will add a banner at the top of the page that look like this:
  

• It will also add your article to the fan fiction category.
  
• DO NOT add any other categories to your fan fiction articles.
  
• DO NOT add your fan fiction to articles in the Lore category.
  
• If you have your own fan fiction that you want to place in context of Birthright canon lore, you might want to place a link in the The New Place%2C Birthright Creativity Center.
  

Fan fiction is a very open field. The only thing we require is that fan fiction on BRWiki be about Birthright, and be clearly marked as fanfic (see fanfic policy). Think of the below guidelines as a smorgosbord that you can pick and choose from depending on what you want to do.

Some readers prefer to read fanfic which does not conflict with the world as they already know it.
To write fan fiction that integrates seamlessly with official lore, try to keep the below points in mind:

• Try to avoid events which would alter the past in such a way that the event would have been recorded throughout history and be widely known outside of your fanfic unless a feasible plot device would allow it.
  

:* However, Michael Roele could have talked to a character or have gone on an unrecorded quest before his death! This would not directly conflict with official lore.

• Avoid introducing objects or characters which would have been widely known or otherwise already mentioned into the story unless a feasible plot device would allow it. This would include gods who would have been affecting the Universe and widely known to Aebrynis, but not gods who have been asleep, imprisoned, etc. The same goes for races which would have been known if suddenly present.
  

:* However: a secluded, very powerful demon, that for some reason did not take part in the invasion, would have escaped notice up until your story.

• Attempt to keep up to date with official lore in the case that future lore and retcons make the events in your story contradictory with official lore.
  

One fascinating side to fanfic are the "what if?" scenarios that play out very differently from what we know. If you plan on writing this, do feel free to disregard everything in the previous section.
Do however consider pointing out in the introduction to your story that it is a "what if" story, or is otherwise incompatible with official lore. It saves readers that prefer or expect fanfic compatible with official lore a nasty surprise, and, who knows, this way they might even come to like your story when prepared for it!
