Fur?siyya is the Basarji version of Chivalry which includes as an explicit part of the code explicit rules for caring for horses and riding techniques. Fur?siyya applies to both the heavily armored horseman, the "Faris", or knight, as well as the light horseman, or "Akinji".
It is expected that a proper faris or akinji has been trained in the arts of fur?siyya, including riding, animal husbandry, including veterinary care and farriery, archery, and charging with a lance. Some schools also hold that proper swordsmanship is also an aspect of Fur?siyya, and train their fursan accordingly.
The term is a derivation of faras "horse".
