These presentations were made to the Overthane of Baruk-Azhik when he required a new Marshal.

From Ruarch Rockhammer, High Priest of Moradin.

Blessed Overthane, Servant of Moradin,

I desire that you consider Korclangeddin Earthtender, brother of my faithful lieutenant Belar. Korclangeddin is touched by the gods and Belar believes that his brother is charged by the gods to lead a crusade against the orogs. Your appointment of Korclangeddin would allow this destiny to be fulfilled. This great warrior possesses fantastic strength, astounding endurance, and is regarded as highly intimidating by enemies. Your father's desire to smash the orogs could be realized by naming Korclangeddin, a priestly warrior of renown.

Here are some of his notable skills:
notable endurance, powers of intimidation, religious virtue, a knowledge of military science, as well as other worthwhile skills.

Your wise teacher and advisor, Ruarch

From Dalfarok Oresmith, Archtreasurer

Mighty Liege,

I beg of you not to consider Korclangeddin Earthtender. He is ill-suited to this important office, is nominated only to advance the power of the temples [ DM note: Dalfarok is a priest of Vergadain] rather than the general welfare, and is being offered also because Belar Earthtender has asked this favor of his master, the High Priest. He possesses no knowledge of the art of war apart from battle, is entirely lacking in diplomatic skills, which you specifically requested, and he is touched by the gods which makes him a great warrior, but a poor general. I warn you that your high priest seeks a crusade against the orogs to benefit his own power in your kingdom. I hope this advice is most useful to you as I share your desire to see all of Baruk-Azhik prosper.

Your most obedient servant, Dalfarok

From Throvim and Bain Earthkore, Grand Miner and Grand Judge respectively

Your most honorable Overthane,

Do consider our esteemed cousin Thraim Earthkore, the most renown general in all the clans. As you already know, he is the popular favorite and with good reason. What Bain is to Law, Thaim is to Military Science, as Bain has the greatest mind among dwarves, so Thaim possess the greatest might. Aside from Athelwold Ironstroke, there is no competition here. Neither the Earthtender beserker nor the Oresmith mercenary are reliable generals. While Oresmith is noted for his knowledge of military science, which does not exceed Thraim's unsurpassed knowledge, Oresmith knows nothing of the techniques of siegecraft or generalship. Ironstroke, admittedly is high born and has demonstrated long service in the army of Baruk-Azhik, but for what is he renown except his long service? Thaim Earthkore is unsurpassed in strength and knowledge of military science. He knows the techniques of siege, administration, generalship. His service to your army is already exemplary. He is the only fit candidate.

Here are some of notable skills:
Generalship, Administration, Siegecraft, and unsurpassed Military Science.

Your devoted counselors, Throvim and Bain

From Gilaim Ironfoe, clan leader of Ironfoe

Dread sovereign,

I implore you to reject the name of Thaim Earthkore. The Earthkore family aims at nothing but the total control of all your government. How could your rule with the Earthkore clan shielding you from any information which contradicts their views? There is no doubt that Thaim Earthkore is a great general, noble hero, and popular conqueror, but that just makes him all the more dangerous. His very skills which you hope to harness would be used by the Earthkore clan to prevent you from ever resisting their power. Should the mines, courts, and army all fall under one clan, the liberty of all dwarves is lost.

Chief of Ironfoe clan, Gilaim

From Dalfarok Oresmith, Archtreasurer

Mighty Liege,

I am sure you are well aquatinted with the heroic deeds of my uncle, who has served the Army of Baruk-Azhik well in addition to leading companies of dwarven guards in the wars of humans, a practice which is both honorable and profitable. While some may attempt to besmirch his good name with charges that he is unattached to our country they are either lying or horribly misinformed. Ruerik Oresmith is no seeker of adventure, but a dwarven warrior of the highest ability who has had the good fortune to fight for noble causes while his homeland was at peace under the wise stewardship of your father. He is a noted warrior in his own right as well as being as well aquatinted as any man with the science of war. Furthermore, his time among the humans makes him all the more valuable in your policies of cooperation with friendly kingdoms of humans.

Here are some of his notable skills:
notable endurance, weaponsmith of note, fine warrior, knowledge of military history and the tenants of strategy, and unsurpassed knowledge of Military Science.

Your most obedient servant, Dalfarok

From Ruarch Rockhammer, High Priest of Moradin.

Blessed Overthane, Servant of Moradin,

I urge caution in consideration of Ruerik Oresmith as a nominee for Marshal. He is nothing but a soldier for pay and we could never be sure he was not in the pay of our enemies. A man should fight for his gods, or his clan, but to fight for money is to make a rich man your master rather than your gods or family. In the teachings of Moradin, it is written, "The mercenaries are useless and dangerous, and if anyone supports his state by the arms of mercenaries, he will never stand firm or sure, as they are disunited, ambitious, without discipline, faithless, bold amongst friends, cowardly amongst enemies, they have no fear of gods, and keep no faith with men. Ruin is only deferred by the attackers delay; in peace you are despoiled by them, in war by the enemy." I know you are familiar with the holy texts, young priest, but do take them to heart. Your heirs will thank you for it.

Your wise teacher and advisor, Ruarch

From Thar Thornblade, leader of the clan Thornblade and Thane of Baruk-Azhik

Dread sovereign,

Who could better lead the clans in battle but Athelwode Ironstroke, the most respected of their number, a clan leader himself, and a general with broad abilities. An excellent warrior in his own right, studied in military history, military science, strategy, siegecraft, and administration, he has served your armies without interruption to serve abroad as Oresmith has, or to pursue personal and political advantages as Earthkore has. No less regarded in birth than Earthkore, he is also a man of greater rank, being leader of his clan. His use of the two-handed battle axe is a thing of lore. He would lead your armies from the front, cutting down enemies and spurring the men onward rather than from a tent, safe and unable to spur the soldiers.

Here are some of his notable skills:
An excellent warrior in his own right, renown with a battle axe, studied in military history, military science, strategy, siegecraft, and administration

Thane and Chief of Thornblade clan, Thar

From Grimm Stonefist, leader of the clan Stonefist

Dread sovereign,

Reject the nomination of Athelwode Ironstroke for as the leader of Baruk-Azhik's most powerful military clan, he already has a great amount of power in the army. To combine the offices of clan leader of Ironstroke and Marshal would be to make one man master of all the soldiers of Baruk-Azhik. Half the army would be his kin and the other half would swear to obey him as Marshal. He would control promotions and advancement within the whole army, appointing his friends and followers. What could you do to stop him? He would control what you knew about your own army. Would he put the name of his rival on a list of promotion? Never. You would have no choice but to run the army yourself just to prevent disaster. Avoid this catastrophe and appoint a man of nobility and learning like Thraim Earthkore, or a practiced captain such as Ruerik Oresmith. That would balance the forces in the army and you would be able to run the whole kingdom.

Chief of Stonefist clan, Grimm
